Description

This image of Warrior Woman is based in 1910 and as such I washed out the colors to fit the period.

Warrior Woman is one of my Superheroes based in the year of 1910. She was one of the first superhumans to be publicly recognized as a crime fighting Superhero, something she was not too pleased about because she does not consider herself a superhero. Ever since she denounced her own Godhood and the Godhood of every other superhuman who posed as one, over two thousand years ago, she has hated any type of recognition or special treatment by virtue of her powers. That’s right, Warrior Woman is over two thousand years old and that’s because she is really Freya, the ancient Norse God. How? If you are interested please feel free to read below.

In my superhero universe superhumans have been on earth as long as man has. Of course they were not called superhumans at first, they were called Gods. The Egyptian, Greek and Norse gods were all really humans with extraordinary abilities. There were many others over time. Several roman emperors were superhumans and most of the ancient emperors of China and Japan (They were considered Gods as well). As the ancient era passed so did the notion of divinity through superpowers though super powered humans were still common. King Arthur, Joan of arc, Robin Hood, HanzoHatori, David crockett, etc are some notable examples though there were many that have been forgotten in history.

In ancient times people who gained superhuman abilities used them to help themselves, to gain riches, fame and rule, until they ran into another superhuman who wanted the same thing. Thus they fought with one another constantly until several who lived in Egypt actually joined forces. Together they were able to build, rule, subjugate and oppress the largest empire the world had ever seen. Over time this begun to happen in other distant lands such as Persia, Greece and Germania (North and Eastern Europe).

These were all tenuous alliance at best and there was constant backbiting, rivalries and betrayals among them, which gave rise to many of the historical tales we have in the modern day regarding the ancient Gods.

Freya was among the first Superhumans who set themselves up as Gods in Germania and ruled with them for a very long time until she had a severe change of heart. Through a series of very trying and heartbreaking events she finally saw their own cruelty, the very cruelty she inflicted. Freya sought to redeem herself and fought with the oppressed people to overthrow the tyrannical Gods, which after many battles she did.

Since then she has lived to ensure that no Superhuman ever abuse their powers and at the first sign of such she would end them as well as fighting any evil that would dare show it’s ugly face. So of course when Chris Reeves embraced his public persona as Superhero in 1910 she hunted him down ready to end him if he was abusing his powers in any way. She discovered that he was not and even found herself helping Superhero against his stronger foes, which put her in the public spotlight. The people loved this beautiful warrior heroine and named her Warrior Woman. Freya has not been able to shake that name ever since.

As to Freya’s powers, she attributed her powers to magical items she wears. In times past she said it was her feathered cloak that enabled her to fly and her necklace that beguiled men. Currently she says her bracers, greaves, circlet and belt give her her powers. In reality those items as well as those in the past are completely powerless. Freya does this to protect herself and misdirect any potential enemies. In reality Freya’s powers come from Magic, she is a very powerful sorceress. In the time when she was close with Odin, it was she who taught him magic. He was a legitimate superhuman in his own right but was able to gain the ability to cast one spell.

Magic in this universe has defined rules and bounds. It is essentially the ability to warp reality in a specific way, the way being defined by the spell wielded. To gain the ability to do this is extremely difficult and takes great sacrifice to achieve. Generally sorcerers can only warp reality in one way at a time, which means they can only wield one spell at a time. It takes a full ten minutes of concentration in the middle of a specifically drawn rune to change an active spell to another one the sorcerer knows. They cannot use the spell being depowered or the spell being empowered until the change is complete. Freya can wield 4 spells and though she knows many spells she can only use 4 at any given moment, though 4 is more than any other person has ever achieved. One of those spells is the Immortality spell and she never depowers that one so in effect she has three.

Spells Freya knows:

Though Freya knows each of these spells and even a few more, she cannot cast them all at will. She can only cast those 4 spells she has empowered at that time. Also many of these spells are extremely rare; some have been all but forgotten.

Immortality

The immortality spell is one of the most powerful in existence and takes a very strong sorcerer to be able to cast it. At first if stops ageing and as the sorcerer’s proficiency with the spell increases it makes them resistant and then immune to poisons and disease. Farther strength in the spell increases a person’s healing ability. Freya has had this spell active for over two thousand years and as such it has grown to incredible strength. With this spell active Freya will heal from literally any injury, if even one cell with her DNA remains she will still heal. This does not mean she is impervious to injury, just that she will heal from it.

Self movement

This spell enables a person to control where they are in the world. It grants flight and as it increases in strength enables them to move through solid objects and eventually teleport. The teleportation’s range is global in strength but not interstellar. This only works on the sorcerer, not others.

Because Freya was able to fly legend spread that she was able to move between worlds. This is essentially true for the worlds of the Gods such as Asgard, Alfheim were in reality secluded places where the ancient superhuman built their homes. They were usually only accessible via superhuman means.

Other Movement

This spell works essentially the same as self movement except that it affects one physical thing separate to the sorcerer. They can move one object at a time telekinetically, in greater strength they can move more and move them through other solid objects and eventually teleport other objects including people.

Polymorph

This spell enable the sorcerer to shape shift into any living form. Freya does not use this spell combatively anymore because any advantage she once gained in the other forms she can achieve more effectively with other spells. She does still use this to hide her identity and pass unnoticed.

Lightning

This spell enables the sorcerer to control electricity such as calling down lighting. This is one of Freya’s more powerful spells and she rarely uses it because of that. She doesn’t want to obliterate every opponent she fights.

Strength

The strength spell is one that Freya keeps active most of the time. Because Freya always heals through the immortality spell her natural strength has grown to a considerable level over the past two thousand years, she can pick up a car with a little effort. This spell however increases her strength to mountain moving levels and makes her quite the force to be reckoned with. This spell does not make the sorcerer invulnerable but does increase their resistance to injury considerably.

Create

The creation spell is poorly named for it does not truly create but change non living matter into different non living matter in any shape the sorcerer has already seen. Essentially they can turn stone into gold, water into clothes or other objects, literally any non living thing into anything else that they have seen including weapons, clothes and food. Of course the affect of this spell such as the size or quantity of the thing/s being created is measured by the individual strength of the sorcerer wielding it. The ability to turn people into stone essentially comes from this spell but to turn a person into stone they must already be dead for this spell will not affect living matter. It was through this spell that Freya built her castle on mount Folkvangr.

Earth

The earth spell grants control over the earth in the general vicinity of the sorcerer. They can call forth shards of rock, cause tremors and when stronger, level or raise mountains and cause controlled earthquakes.

Counter

The Counter spell literally nullifies any active spell that it is cast upon. The only way to stop The Counter Spell is with another Counter Spell. If Freya ever faces another sorcerer who knows this spell they can nullify her immortality instantly. This will not kill her because the Immortality spell is not keeping her alive; it simply brings her back to life if ever killed, which means if her immortality is countered, and she is then killed, it is permanent.

Fire

The fire spell enables the sorcerer to create heat and control fire. Freya does not use this spell much because the lightning spell is far more powerful.

Know

The know spell enable the sorcerer to be able to see the current location of a person if she is touching the place that person once stood or holding an item that belongs to them. In greater strength they can do this if they have ever seen the person with their own eyes.

Speak

The speak spell enable the sorcerer to be able to communicate with any living thing.

The spells Freya uses most in combat are The Immortality Spell (she never takes it off) and The Self Movement spell. With her other two spells she often switches between The Strength Spell, Other Movement, Lightning and Earth.
