This is a tribute to one of my real life heroes. Nephi was a man who actually lived. General understanding places him at about 16-20 years old in Jerusalem at 600 b.c. in the reign of king Zedekiah, king of Judah (the Jews) just before the Babylonian captivity. He was a man of large stature and unwavering righteousness. He led his family away from Jerusalem before it was destroyed and they travelled all the way to the American continent (I kid you not). There he established a pre-Aztec/Mayan/Incan people called the Nephites. We know of him because we have been blessed with, basically his own personal journal, and as you read it you find out just how much of a legend he really was. This tradition of writing was continued through his descendants for about one thousand years until the last man to write in it condensed and compiled all their accounts into one book. This last mans name was Mormon. And the book was called the book of Mormon. Makes sense doesnt it. If you want to find out why hes my hero, go read the book.
Interesting take! I do think the implication and definition at that time of "large in stature" differs largely from ours in this day and age of 24-hour gyms and bodybuilders and uber-ripped superheroes, but it's great that you made such a nice and open tribute to such an excellent man.
I remember Nephi. <3 I'd always did love his stories from the book of mormon. I just hate whatever is going on with the reglion theses days. It's quite sad.
"Young but exceedingly large in stature" (or something to that effect). He wasn't kidding!
I love the soft colors, and something about this style reminds me of some sort of Asian pottery or dishes I've seen someplace...yet it's different and totally works for Nephi's people at that time
I just started re-reading the BoM for the 3rd time last week, and wow, this guy had some strength, both physical and spiritual...he's one of my heroes too
That’s really great to hear. Nephi truly is a legend. Unwavering in the face of so much opposition. He knew what was true and not only stood by it but defended it vigorously.
I was named after this guy too. Nephi is awesome.
~=Z=~
most of those Book of Mormon heroes were and remain very awesome. Nephi certainly was not alone in that department in my opinion
